These are exciting times at Mytholite Towers!
We have a brand new, purpose built website coming very soon but that does mean we have some major maintenance time coming up. The website will be down, likely for a couple of days, while we work on stripping out the old to make way for the new.
What does this mean for you? Well, not much to begin with. The website will be the same, but better. The current website if cobbled together out of parts that don’t know how to work together, especially with the introduction of bespoke tools we’ve created for integration in our games. The new website is being built, not only to understand those tools, but to natively work with them.
I think it’s time to explain what we’ve been up to that you’ll start to see in the new year.
Mytholite Launcher
We’ve built our own launcher. Like Steam, but infinitely smaller.
No, we are not trying to compete with Steam. Yes, we will still release our games on Steam (and other platforms). Our launcher will be there as a first-party option for us and you.
Our thoughts are simple: we don’t ever want to be forced to rely on a third party platform to distribute our games. Putting your entire livelihood in the hands of external gatekeepers is always a risk, even if you are on your best behaviour. We don’t want to surrender total control to anyone. Mytholite Launcher is our answer to that.
Having our own marketplace also helps the third party studios who have games published by Mytholite. We have a revenue share model that reverses the industry norm in favour of developers. Working with third parties negates the positive impact of that due to the platforms taking their cut- and in some cases, rather a large cut. Selling directly through the Mytholite Marketplace ensures our third party developers get a better deal, which we think is hugely important.
Along with the Mytholite Launcher, we have built our own ecosystem. Cloud saves, leaderboards, achievements, social features… these all work seamlessly through the Mytholite Launcher.
Upcoming Releases
The Mytholite Launcher and our shiny new website will be pretty pointless without something to play, right? So we will be releasing some fun stuff during the beta period of the Mytholite Launcher.
Firstly, the Going Down demo. Of course we have to make that available through our launcher.
Secondly, the Sky Ahoy demo. Again, a no brainer.
Lastly, the early access release of a brand new game: D.E.A.D.: Doomsday Emergency Action Division.
While the Going Down and Sky Ahoy demos are currently only available on Windows via Steam, they will both have MacOS releases via the Mytholite Marketplace.
When does this all happen?
We don’t have a date for you yet. All we can tell you is that it will come in January.
Finishing touches are being put in place, the code is almost ready. We will announce when maintenance begins, and then a much bigger announcement when maintenance is over and we have shiny new things for you to poke and prod.
